It is possible that these carbon nanotubes could release plastic eroding chemicals so that they can be decomposed. When the nanotubes are in the water, the nitrogen on the tube mixes with potassium peroxymonosulfate. This creates the chemicals that are needed to crumble the microplastics into chemical components.
